Reflection
In our Gospel reading Jesus sends out His disciples to proclaim the gospel, drive out unclean spirits, and cure diseases. But they are not to carry anything extra, or even what we may consider necessary for a journey.
For some time now, I see at least two reasons for this. One reason is that Jesus is encouraging them to put their trust in God rather than material things.
Another reason, which I feel is very important, is that the most important thing we can bring to the mission of proclaiming good news and bringing healing is our very selves.
When we bring ourselves, not just what we have but who we are, it is a more authentic message.
The world continues to need good news proclaimed. The world still needs healing, not hate or division, or even worse, indifference.
May we bring good news with trust in God and a hope for justice.
May we be messengers of healing and peace.
