Jesus today invites us to regard ourselves as members of a worldwide family, where each of my neighbors is like a sister or brother, mother or father to me.

Reflection

It is our fidelity to the will of God that makes us to belong to the family of Jesus.

In today’s Gospel passage, we see Jesus focusing the attention of His followers on the most vital dimension of the kingdom of God: Doing God’s Will. As always, Jesus is busy with His ministry. The place is packed with people sitting on the floor, in the passageway, around the doors and windows, craving to listen to what Jesus is speaking. It is at that time that His family members arrive to see Him. His family can’t get through to him, so they send a message in, and it passes from person to person: “Tell him that His mother and brothers are outside looking for Him.” -Mark 3:32

The family of Jesus are wanting to meet Him, and if possible, to give Him a break in His busy ministry life. Jesus always loved crucial situations to send forth a teaching. He brings the focus back on what is most essential, the importance to seek and do God’s will, the importance to become related in the kingdom.

What is our own attitude and mentality? Am I obsessed more with worldly gains or do I be zealous for spiritual graces and blessings?

In the words of St. Angela Merici, an Italian Saint whose memorial we celebrate today she says, “Let us do something, get moving, be confident, risk new things, stick with it then be ready for big surprises.” Yes, it is our fidelity to the will of God that makes us part of the family of Jesus and helps us expect big surprises in life.  His true disciples are distinguished, not by rank, position, or talents, but by seeking to do God’s will.
