A profound sense of hospitality and a spirit of welcome

Originally formed over 50 years ago, Korean Martyrs Catholic Church (KMCC) in Chicago is a mission parish served by The Passionists of Holy Cross Province.
Passionist priests, including Fr. Tu-Jin Kim, CP, and Fr. Don Webber, CP, have been instrumental in ministering to the Korean Catholic community there, providing pastoral care, celebrating the sacraments and fostering a vibrant faith life.
Cultural Traditions & Celebrations
The community celebrates major Korean holidays with deep faith and vibrant cultural rituals. For example, during the Seollal (Lunar New Year) Mass held on the eve of the new year, worshippers honor their ancestors through rituals like chamshin (bowing) and kwangshin (offering incense and rice wine), followed by a festive sharing of traditional food, communal blessing and fellowship.

A Close‑Knit, Welcoming Family
The parish is described as “very active” and deeply relational despite its smaller size. It serves mainly first‑generation immigrants, while also warmly embracing second‑generation families whose involvement brings life and continuity to the community. For many, it’s more than a church; it’s extended family.
