As the Director of Senior Care at Sacred Heart Monastery in Louisville, Kentucky, Brother Kurt Wernert, C.P., provides essential health care support to senior Passionists living at the monastery.

He emphasizes the importance of hope and faith in his daily interactions.

“Hope is a gift that comes from God through the grace of the Holy Spirit.”

Br. Kurt views hope as God’s love embodied in each of us through our acts of kindness and compassion. He says, “In times of struggle, we have hope that God is with us, giving us the strength to persevere and to grow through these experiences. Our faith is rooted in the hope that God is faithful and present in the midst of life’s challenges and blessings.”

In his role, Brother Kurt works diligently to ensure the senior Passionists receive crucial medical care while they continue to contribute their gifts as much as possible, both within the monastery and through pastoral assistance at nearby parishes. Sacred Heart Community also serves others by remembering the needs of the Passionist Family in their daily prayers.

Brother Kurt is ready to assist each man through the complexities of today’s health care system, ensuring that medical documentation is kept current, facilitating access to health benefits, coordinating medical appointments and providing companionship during hospital stays.

Brother Kurt emphasizes that Sacred Heart Monastery is about more than senior care. “We are a community of men dedicated to living our Passionist vocations while appreciating the gifts that come from God at every stage of life.”

Brother Kurt believes senior care is a commitment to respect each man as he is, enabling him to live and age optimally while focusing on what is most important at this stage of his life. “We manage their health care so they can devote their energy to live and serve as they wish in the golden years of life,” says Brother Kurt.

Br. Kurt and the Senior Care Team are committed to supporting the senior men in the Holy Cross Province, so the men can continue living in the community they know and love, whenever possible, without having to move to Louisville.

I am honored to serve in a ministry that provides health care support for each of them. It is good work, and it is critical to the life of the Province.”
