Reflection
After Jesus washes the apostles’ feet, he tells them it is a model to follow.
Which brings us to today’s gospel in a rather straightforward way.
Jesus explains that no one who serves is greater than the one being served, or that no messenger is greater than the one sending the message.
Those who bring God’s message to his people are messengers of God’s word. He says that those who understand and observe this relationship are blessed.
Jesus also speaks directly about some who are taking part in the Pascal feast and will betray Him and their friendship. He says that he is saying these things openly before they happen so we can believe He is the Christ sent from God.
I believe that Jesus tells us that if we receive the Holy Spirit, whom He sends to us, we receive Him, and in receiving Him, we receive God. Now there’s a simple explanation of the Trinity, if that is possible.
