I find myself writing this article during Laudato Si’ Week. Pope Francis wrote Laudato Si’ eleven years ago. His urgent letter, addressed to everyone on Earth, called for global dialogue and action regarding the environmental crisis and the protection of both nature and the most vulnerable people living on the margins.
Eleven years later seems like the perfect time to revisit the seven Laudato Si’ Goals, which continue to provide guidance on immediate actions each of us can take in caring for our common home.

The Seven Laudato Si’ Goals
Response to the Cry of the Earth
We are called to protect our planet by reducing pollution, conserving natural resources, and addressing climate change. Small actions such as planting trees, reducing waste, and conserving energy help safeguard Earth for future generations.
Response to the Cry of the Poor
Environmental damage affects the poor and vulnerable first and most severely. We are challenged to stand in solidarity with those suffering from poverty, displacement, and injustice by supporting fair access to food, water, housing, and healthcare.
Ecological Economics
Economic systems should serve people and the planet, not just profit. Supporting ethical businesses, fair trade, and sustainable practices encourages an economy that respects human dignity and protects creation.
Adoption of Sustainable Lifestyles
Simple choices in our daily lives can make a meaningful difference. Reducing consumption, recycling, avoiding unnecessary waste, and choosing sustainable products are practical ways to live more responsibly and faithfully.
Ecological Education
Learning about environmental issues helps us grow in awareness and responsibility. Families, schools, and faith communities all play an important role in teaching future generations to value and care for creation. PESC summer camps, field trips, & retreats include ecological education. We invite you to join the PESC Environmental Justice Tour on June 13.
Ecological Spirituality
Through prayer, reflection, and time in nature, we deepen our gratitude for the gifts of the earth and renew our commitment to protect them. We invite you to join us for a class, retreat, or spend time on the property as we continue to nurture this spiritual connection to creation.
Community Resilience and Empowerment
Strong communities can respond together to environmental and social challenges. By working collaboratively, sharing resources, and supporting local initiatives, we build hope and resilience for the future. We invite you to come take part in the Listen Learn Act program.
Each of these goals reminds us that caring for our common home is not simply an environmental issue — it is a spiritual and moral responsibility. Together, we can help create a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world.
Together in peace,
