Blessed Bernard Silvestrelli was born into a noble Roman family and joined the Passionists in 1854, taking the name Bernard Mary of Jesus. He was known for his wisdom, holiness and leadership, serving as Superior General of the Passionist Congregation for over 25 years.
During his time as leader, he renewed the spirit of the congregation, supported missions and emphasized faithfulness to the Passionist Rule. He was deeply prayerful, humble and dedicated to keeping alive the memory of Christ’s Passion. Even after stepping down from leadership, he lived simply and continued to inspire others by his example.
