The two days before Ash Wednesday we will read the beginning of the Letter of James, ‘…the sun withers the flower, its beauty perishes, so the way of the rich, they will wither away. (James 1:11).

(Sant 1,11).

Sunday’s feast of Our Lord’s Baptism concludes the Christmas season. Last Sunday, the Solemnity of the Epiphany, we heard the story of the Magi in the gospel of Matthew.

Are we compassionate as God is to us as we live out our vocations?

We, the Church, the Holy gathered People of God, the dying and rising, cross carrying and Easter Candle holding high people, we are always alive and new as we receive this living Word of God.

In today’s gospel Jesus ends the arguing and selects his 12 apostles. They will replace the twelve tribes of Israel, be witnesses to the resurrection, and the 12 pillars of the New Jerusalem, the Kingdom of God that Jesus proclaims.

It seems sometimes God shouts out to us, so we don’t miss something important, that our sail catches the breeze or our little boat doesn’t miss a current.

In our Sunday readings, we are following the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus also is teaching as he journeys to Jerusalem.
