When we follow the divine plan, we will be part of the building up of the Reign of God in our world.

The gospel today reveals profound realities. We could focus on its miraculous signs—Jesus walking on water and inviting Peter to do the same—but today let us attend more closely to the dynamics it uncovers.

While faith is not a matter of ‘proofs’ being available, nevertheless, Thomas helps us (as does the traditional story) to see the intimate and necessary connection between the Passion and the new life of Resurrection.

Hospitality and welcome were deep values in his culture, and it’s at the heart of the kingdom of heaven, too. He will welcome us into eternal life with the same care and hospitality.

Jesus is our ‘home’ and he is the centre of our world of meaning, belonging and authentic living.

On this day, we read the Passion from John’s Gospel – a gospel account that presents Jesus as victorious. It is our victory too.
