Let us be humble like a child and enter into the Kingdom of God, relying on the strength that only God can give us.

Today’s readings ask us to examine ways in which we reap sparingly, give grudgingly, draw defined boundaries of acceptability, and cling to our status, traditions, or group identity rather than die to self to discover new life.

After hearing of John the Baptist’s death, Jesus is interrupted on his way to a place of prayer.

Habakkuk asks the questions we are all familiar with: How can a good God allow such awful things to happen? Why do bad things happen to good people?

Jesus said to his disciples,
"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."

We are made for unity with God, the infinite one, the one with no limits.

In a moment of opportunity, she responds with the love she has for her child and discovered the love that Christ has for the world. 

Each of us are called to discipleship in a world in need of healing and hope.

The gospel today reveals profound realities. We could focus on its miraculous signs—Jesus walking on water and inviting Peter to do the same—but today let us attend more closely to the dynamics it uncovers.

We hear the Word of God. We are healed of the things that hold us back, and we are nourished for the journey.
