From September 15 to October 15, we join our nation in honoring Hispanic Heritage Month — a celebration deeply connected to the history of Holy Cross Province.
Over a century ago, exiled Spanish Passionists found welcome and support in our communities in Kansas and Chicago, where they completed their studies and were ordained at Holy Name Cathedral in 1916.
Two of them, Blessed Nicéforo Díez and Blessed Juan Pedro Bengoa, would later give the ultimate witness as Passionist Martyrs of Daimiel.
Today, Holy Cross Province continues to celebrate and collaborate with Hispanic and Latino communities through:
- Retreat center programming.
- Parish missions in English and Spanish.
- Pastoral leadership at St. Joseph Parish in Birmingham, Alabama.
- New initiatives like the Spiritual Companion Program in Houston, Texas.
Beyond our ministries, we cherish the daily, personal relationships that flourish among our Hispanic and Latino friends and members of the Passionist Family.
Our ongoing partnership with Cristo Rey Province in Mexico and the Passionist Sisters (C.F.P.) continues to bear rich fruit.
As we celebrate this month, we pray for God’s blessing on our shared mission of service, faith and love.
