PTSD Awareness Month is observed each year in June. As Passionists, we want to highlight this observance because it challenges us, as members of the Passionist Family, to become more aware of the suffering caused by PTSD among our families and friends, especially within the vulnerable populations among us.
The traumatic events which bring on PTSD are all around us. Most commonly we think of those who have served in armed conflict in the military services. First responders are also at risk of PTSD in the fulfillment of their duties. Abusive situations and the threats experienced by those with a non-binary gender identity are potential settings for developing PTSD.
We are the Passionist Family. We are committed to recognizing the Passion of Jesus in our brothers and sisters. We also wish to respond to people’s suffering with words and actions that bring hope to darkness and companionship to loneliness. Most of all, we can affirm life to anyone who is about to give up on living.
Let us pray with you
On June 27, the Passionists will remember at Mass all those who suffer with PTSD. In the form below, please include the names of all those you would like remembered.

I encourage everyone, especially veterans, to seek help. I lost a close friend to suicide, and it taught me that asking for help is strength, not weakness. I found a therapist who has been my guide for over a decade, and that relationship continues to help me grow. We all need someone who will listen without judgment.

Prayer for Those Suffering with PTSD
Gracious God,
Look with mercy upon all who suffer from the wounds of trauma and PTSD.
You know their fears, painful memories and hidden struggles.
Walk with them and carry them through this difficult time.
Calm anxious hearts, bring comfort in distressand be their refuge in moments of fear.
Grant strength to the weary, courage to the overwhelmed and hope to the discouraged.
Surround them with caring family, friends and counselors who can support them with patience and compassion.
Heal what has been wounded and restore what has been broken.
Help them to know they are not alone but deeply loved and held in your care.
May your peace guard their hearts and minds, bringing healing, rest and renewed hope.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
