Visiting prisoners is not exactly the first thing on most of our to-do lists, is it?

But Jesus has his divine way of reminding us, “Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me.”

Think about Ana, a Passionist sister. She spent years visiting prisoners in Michigan, but she wasn’t just a visitor—she was a bridge. Because their families were undocumented and couldn’t risk being caught, she became their only connection to the outside world.

She was like Veronica on the Way of the Cross. When everyone else saw a “criminal,” Veronica saw a soul in pain and reached out to wipe His face.

Sister Ana did the same, carrying whispers of love from loved ones and tiny gifts back and forth like sacred treasures.

Jesus had whispered to all of us, “I was in prison, and you came to visit me.”

Let’s take a quiet breath today and ask our hearts: “How can I best serve the ‘least’ among us? Where is the Holy Spirit leading my unique spirit to help?

Let’s start by looking at who’s right in front of us, right now. How can we love them today?”
