In the midst of this wounded history, Christ presents Himself with a certainty that sustains the soul: “I am the bread of life… whoever comes to me will never hunger.” (John 6).

Reflection

In the heart of the Easter season, as we proclaim that Life has conquered death, today’s Word confronts us with a reality that is not foreign to us: persecution, dispersion, suffering, and the apparent defeat of the just. “That day a severe persecution began…” (Acts 8). And yet, the Church is not extinguished; it is scattered. Where there is woundedness, the Spirit sows mission.

We live in a world that continues to crucify displaced peoples, fractured communities, and the innocent suffering in silence. And, as in the early Church, it can seem as though injustice has the final word. But Easter reveals a deeper truth: love is not stopped; it is multiplied.

In the midst of this wounded history, Christ presents Himself with a certainty that sustains the soul: “I am the bread of life… whoever comes to me will never hunger.” (John 6). This is not a distant promise, but a living presence that sustains us in chaos, nourishes us in uncertainty, and calls us to remain.

As Passionists, we remember the Passion not as defeat, but as the place where love becomes irrevocable. Where the world sees failure, God reveals fidelity.

Today, Easter invites us to recognize that even in dispersion, we are still sent; even in suffering, we are still sustained; even in death, Life has already begun.

Because Christ does not only promise eternal life, He Himself is, now and always, our living hope.
