GOSPEL READING JOHN: 1: 1-14
In the beginning was the Word. The Word was in God and the Word was God. He was present to God in the beginning. Through him all things came into being and apart from him, nothing came to be. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we have seen his glory… filled with enduring love.
God loves stories, especially ones that begin with: “Once upon a time, when wishes really did come true.” Before there was a beginning of anything, God “Wished”…and the Wish was with God. And then God Wished the world. The exuberance of God’s life just spilled out into the world, and it was very good. Then in the excess of God’s exuberance, God made us. God created us to be like the very “Wish” of God, who could understand and radiate God’s own goodness and love.
MESSAGE FROM GOD
“I took a chance when I created free will because freedom meant that people could do their own wishing and they often did it wrong. This made me sad. And so I sent my perfect “Wish,” my own son. He spoke about me with stories that people could understand, and he radiated goodness and love. But he was rejected and he died. I raised him up on the third day so that people would have my love and forgiveness. Through him I have given you my pledge that you will have a place with me…where all good wishes really do come true!”
Loving God, you have given us the greatest gift imaginable. Help us to celebrate the birth of your son and to live the life you have given us with some of your exuberance. Amen.
