Reflection questions:
1. Jessica discussed why some Christians prefer to distance mental health issues from their faith lives. Have you encountered this mentality—in yourself or in your community? Are there other reasons why people might be reluctant to think about mental health from a faith perspective?
2. What do you think about framing depression as a wilderness experience? How could this theological perspective affect your view of depression or how it is seen in your faith community?
3. Jessica pointed to the story of Hagar as a rich biblical resource for thinking about depression. Are there other biblical stories or themes that could help us think about and respond to mental health conditions from a Christian perspective? (Your ideas may or may not be related to the wilderness)
